We did it! Data collection complete

Data collection is complete! Our teams recently finished surveying 7902 young people including:

(Note: we are currently cleaning the data, so final numbers and proportions may adjust slightly)

  • 7384 mainstream high school students

  • 348 kura kaupapa Māori students

  • 92 alternative education students &

  • 78 young people who are not in education, training or employment.

Among high school and kura students surveyed:

  • 54% were female, 45% male

  • 20% were Māori, 40% New Zealand European, 12% Pacific, 23% Asian, 2% MELAA, 3% of another ethnicity*

  • 18% were 13 years old, 23% 14 years, 22% 15 years, 19% 16 years, 14% 17 years, 3% 18 years (1% ≤12 years or ≥19 years)

*Ethnicity prioritised according to NZ Ministry of Health protocol, 2017

A HUGE thank you to the many young people, whānau & schools that supported our survey. Watch out for our first publications in early 2020, including an overview of findings, mental health trends & vaping data. We'll also be inviting expressions of interest from researchers keen to use Youth19 data, so stay tuned for news of a data fair or similar event. Meanwhile...
