Vaping findings in the news, submissions to Health Select Committee
Youth19 is the first New Zealand survey to explore vaping in secondary school students of all ages.
We found that vaping was common in schools of all deciles and the majority of students vaping had never smoked (more on our fact sheet).
Our findings were featured by One News, in an interview with Youth19 co-lead Dr Terry Fleming on ‘Magic Talk’, and on Newstalk ZB.
The Government is currently consulting on the Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products (Vaping) Amendment Bill.
Dr Jude Ball led a written submission on the Bill to the Health Select Committee, with the Adolescent Health Research Group and Victoria University of Wellington’s School of Health. This is a great summary of what is happening with teenagers & vaping, as well as important ways forward. Read the full submission here.
Dr Ball will make an oral submission to the Select Committee tomorrow (Wed 8 April), scheduled for 11AM. Tune in to see submissions live-streamed on the Health Select Committee Facebook page. The full list of submitters is available here.
More detailed vaping analyses will follow in a scientific publication.
